Currently, I am working on my NaNoWriMo novel and I have to say that I am struggling big time. I am not even close to writing 1,667 words per day. So far I have written a very sad 684 words in total! Managing a blog, working as a full-time teacher, and planning out this novel is very difficult to manage at the moment!
My only solace at this very moment is that I have Thanksgiving break to look forward to in order to catch up on this 50,000-word count! I know that I will not get into 50,000 words by the end of the month but I know for sure that I could catch up to it in December! I love the concept of NaNoWriMo since I am a perfectionist when it comes to writing. I love that they push you to just write without worrying about editing! If you didn’t read my last post about NaNoWriMo I am working on a witchy YA novel.
Now I have never been an outline kind of writer but this witchy novel that I have in my head REQUIRES an outline so I know where I am going with this story. Right now, I am trying to figure out the plot of the story, the motivation of the characters, and the powers that I am giving the witches. I am counting my outline as my word count for NaNoWriMo so don’t judge me! Jaja. There is this video on YouTube by Ariel Bissett that was TREMENDOUSLY helpful for me! If you haven’t seen this video and your struggling with your NaNoWriMo novel I recommend you watch it now! She gives an amazing outline to plan out your novel. I am so happy she came out with this video because like me she has a very busy schedule and this is a perfect outline for a busy person.
I love the NaNoWriMo support system that is in place and the healthy competition behind it. Honestly, I am just having fun being a part of this event and I am trying not to let the word count stress me out. The fact that I am planning out my novel little by little every day or every other day is amazing! I have waited a very long time to plan out a novel and most of my life since I was 12, I have wanted to be a published author. This event has gotten me excited about writing again and I am going to continue to push myself with my writing even after the NaNoWriMo hype is done whether I am excited or not!
I must tell myself that I need to write whether I am inspired or not! One thing I learned about writing is that inspiration isn’t always going to come. Sometimes you can sit for hours and only churn out a paragraph and that is fine! Many people feel that to create art you need to feel inspired and that is the furthest from the truth.
If you’re stressed out about NaNoWriMo I am right there with you but realize that you’re doing an amazing job just by working on your novel. Not many people can say that they have written a novel and that’s an amazing act in itself! Comment below and tell me your NaNoWriMo thoughts!
