So sadly summer is over! I have to say that this summer has been the best summer reading season I have had because the books that I have read have been one of the best YA books that have given me that summery “it’s all good” feeling!
Not once this summer have I experienced the dreaded “reading slump” because I have been lucky in choosing one unputdownable book after another!
I loved these books so freaking much that I wish I could go back in time when I first read these books!
Here are my AMAZEBALLS Reads of 2017…
1) Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson:
(WARNING! My review is a bit biased because of my devotion to anything by Morgan Matson!)
Now I wanted to do a review of this book so bad but I never got around to it! So here is a short mini review! This book was my number one read because I love Morgan Matson with all my heart and she is my go-to when it comes to finding a quality summer read!
Unexpected Everything is about a politicians’ daughter named Andie whose father is going through a political scandal. She is learning to deal with the repercussions of it when she loses her summer internship and has to take a dog walking job instead. Not part of her summer plans but an unexpected summer may just be everything she needs!
I adored this book because I love how Matson develops her characters and shows their growth. The characters in the book go through a lot of mistakes before they start figuring it out which is so true to life. Also, I loved that the true heart of the book is the father-daughter relationship between Andie and her father which makes a great Father’s Day read.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a Morgan Matson book without a summer romance intertwined in the story! When Andie takes her dog walking job she meets an unexpected hunky nerd whose name is Clark! (I don’t know about you but I love that freaking name!)
And of course, Andie wouldn’t be able to endure her “unexpected summer” without her friends to ride it out with her!
This book is awesomeness because it centers on all parts of Andie’s summer by including her friends in the story which was just a delight to read! Sometimes in YA books, they don’t always focus on all parts of the MC’s life and I love that Matson did that! One of my favorite parts of the book were the ones that included Andie’s friends! I will never forget the part where one of her friends was forced to only text with emoji’s and their EPIC summer scavenger hunt! (I need to plan a summer scavenger hunt like this for next summer!) This book will seriously give you all the summer feels you will ever need!
2) Geekerella by Ashley Poston:
The picture on the right is all the cat sticky notes that I collected from this amazing book! You hear right? Cat sticky notes! Look how cute are these cat in the box sticky notes! My husband got it for me from Amazon! Here is the link if you’re interested!
Luckily I was able to write a whole book review Geekerella! Read the synopsis of the book here.
This was one of the most original books that I have ever read and one of the most beautiful book covers I have ever owned! I swear to you that one look at the book cover will make you fall in love at first sight! I bought the book simply for the book cover! I barely even knew what the book was about when I bought it! Unfortunately, the whole don’t judge a book by its cover doesn’t really apply to me lol.
Ashley Poston’s Geekerella is a geeky fangirlish modern retelling of Cinderella! The details of this story were so true to the spirit of the book and the foundation of the Cinderella story itself that it was just pure perfection! How can you not fall in love with a book about a character who writes her own fandom blog called Starfield and works for a Magic Pumpkin food truck?! This book was just cuteness overload!
Geekerella is the ultimate fandom book and it’s a love letter to all the fangirls and fanboys out there in the world!
3) Always and Forever, Lara Jean:
This book is the last and final installment of To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before!
The last Jenny Han book follows Lara Jean through her last years in high school. Lara Jean’s last year of high school is that ultimate year of decisions! She has to figure out where she wants to go to college and how it will affect her family and her swoon-worthy boyfriend Peter Kavinsky! (See my book boyfriend Friday post about him here!)
For those of you that haven’t read the first two books of “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” series do yourself a favor and read them now! Read my review of “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” here.
This book was so perfect and bittersweet for me because it was the closing of a chapter for Lara Jean and her family!
When I was nearing the end of the book I was a hysterical mess! I was literally laughing, crying, and squealing constantly! Have you ever done that with a book? Hopefully, I am not alone in this!
Lara Jean is my fictional best friend and if Jenny Han decides to change her mind and write ten more books about Lara Jean and her wonderful world I would eat up those books in a second! #jennyhangroupieforev
I was sad to finish the series but it ended perfectly and I am so happy that now I could look forward to the upcoming movie of To All the Boy I’ve Loved Before movie because it will fill up my big gaping Lara Jean void!
This is the end of my top summer AMAZEBALLS reads of 2017! I am sad summer is over but I am so excited for the fall season to read all those books in my Halloweenie TBR shelf! Look for my blog post on my upcoming fall reads of 2017!
